New This Month
This beautiful snowy owl was photographed just outside of our region in New York. Some of these Arctic owls migrate south during the winter, and unlike other types of owls, snowies are not nocturnal, so they can be seen during the day.⠀ Every few years, a phenomenon known as an irruption occurs, in which thousands of snowy owls migrate from the north and go much further south than they ordinarily would. The last time this happened was the winter of 2013-14. Although difficult to predict, keep an eye out for the next irruption year.
